The Christian Science Provider Network is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit provider network which provides Christian Science nursing services to enrollees of health plans.
Janiva Toler, President/Chair
Janiva has served as Executive Director for several Christian Science nursing facilities: Lynn House of Potomac Valley, Inc. in Virginia, The Leaves, Inc. in Texas and since 2003, Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association in Massachusetts. Janiva has served in a number of positions in the Association of Christian Science Nursing Organizations/Facilities, Inc. and has conducted Christian Science nursing facility inspections for The Commission for Accreditation of Christian Science Nursing Organizations/Facilities, Inc. as well as for The Mother Church (prior to The Commission). She has extensive experience working with Medicare and insurance with Christian Science benefits. Janiva is a Trustee for the Christian Science Nursing Arts Trust. Prior to her work with Christian Science nursing facilities she was in commercial real estate. Following college Janiva spent one year as a Christian Science youth speaker for the Board of Lectureship of The Mother Church. She graduated from Principia College.
John Mitchell, Secretary/Treasurer
John has served as Executive Director/CEO of Arden Wood in San Francisco (formerly the Christian Science Benevolent Association on Pacific Coast) since November of 2010. Prior to that he served as its Director of Development from 1998 to 2004. He served as Longyear Museum’s Director of Development from 2004 to 2010.
John has served in leadership positions in the Association of Christian Science Nursing Organizations/Facilities, Inc. (AOCSN), including Chair of the Agenda Planning Committee (APC) and member of the Executive Committee.
Prior to joining the non-profit sector, John worked in various positions in banking, investment management and organizational consulting. He is a graduate of Principia College and has a master’s degree from Tufts University. He and his wife and daughter live in San Francisco.
Rayburn Hanzlik, Director
Rayburn Hanzlik is an attorney with over 50 years of experience in law, government and business. He served on the Nixon and Ford White House staff and then practiced law in Washington until returning to his home state of California to run for the U.S. Senate in 1980.
Following this unsuccessful Senate campaign, he joined the Presidential campaign of Ronald Reagan and returned to Washington with the Presidential appointment of Administrator of the Economic Regulatory Administration, managing this Department of Energy agency until 1985.
Mr. Hanzlik then worked six years as an executive recruiter with Heidrick & Struggles in Los Angeles followed by starting two technology companies in San Diego. When these businesses were sold in 1996, he returned to Washington as general counsel of Commodore Environmental Technologies until the company moved to New York in 2000.
He then joined the Washington law firm of Trainum, Snowdon & Deane, practicing regulatory and legislative law until 2002, when he formed Washington Technology Strategies, a lobbying firm that assisted technology companies in developing government business. In mid–2018, he returned to the Department of Energy as Senior Legal Advisor and Director of the Oversight Task Force, where he served until January 2021. Now semi–retired he has a limited law practice.
Mr. Hanzlik is a Vietnam veteran with seven years of active and reserve service as a Navy air intelligence officer, including two years in the Pentagon as an admiral’s aide. He has J.D. and M.A. degrees from the University of Virginia and B.S. degree from Principia College. He and his wife, Marilyn, live in Leesburg, VA
Suzanne Givens, Director
She graduated from the Christian Science Nurses Training School in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts and has been listed in the Christian Science Journal since 1975. Her work as a Christian Science nurse has taken her all over the United States. She began by serving as the Christian Science nurse for the Visiting Christian Science Nursing Service for Northeastern Illinois and was instrumental in getting the visiting service back on its feet, helping it become an active service, once again meeting the needs of the Christian Scientists in that area.
At different times in her career, Suzanne has served as Director of Christian Science Nursing (DCSN). She enjoyed her role as Director of Christian Science Nurses Training (DCSNT) at Peace Haven and was a Christian Science Nursing Arts instructor. She has had the privilege of mentoring many Christian Science nurses through their careers.
For the past five years, Suzanne has served in the dual role as Administrator/ DCSN at Beacon Haven, a Christian Science nursing care facility in Minnesota.
Suzanne is currently semi-retired, but continues to support Christian Science nursing whenever she can.
Allan Marquardt II, Director
Allan Marquardt is semi-retired, having spent forty years in corporate and institutional banking, real estate acquisitions, and development and eighteen years serving volunteer boards including Peace Haven Association (five years concluding as president), Principia (nine years in two terms), and two branch churches of Christ, Scientist. He served his Christian Science Association as treasurer for many years, earned his MBA from Wharton and his BA from Principia College. He resides in St. Louis with his wife Lois.
